What is the concept? OK, I fully understand that it's a movie, but I wonder about the methodology used.

    1) He's a file.

    2) He's an object.

    Code:
    Agent AgentSmith = new Agent();
    Code:
Dim AgentSmith as Agent = New Agent

I don't think the Matrix is written in VB or C.

    hmmm....

    1) Is the matrix one single entity like a compiled executable?

    2) Is it a series of.... uh, entities all serving their own purpose that are somehow connected, ala the internet

I would bet on #2, and Agent Smith would be like a compiled executable file... malicious logic.

The real answer is a new bit of code called "Duplicate Imaging Text for Killing Apparati," or "DITKA" for short.

www.wired.com they did a whole article on how the scene was done and I'm not going to make an attempt to summarize it. But basically everything is computer generated once they walk into the "big brawl" scene.

edit - and by everything I mean everything. Tree in teh background? generated. rock on the sidewalk? generated. etc etc etc.

no no no, it's in Ada. :) ....the only language evil enough to handle a thing such as the matrix.

    Excellent post.

I don't know... I guess the Matrix would be the most complex piece of software imaginable: Life, and a world to house that life.

Whoa.... VBGOD... I actually made a breakthrough and realized something about object oriented programming that was holding me back by reading this thread.

I've always hated object oriented anything because I couldn't figure it out. Now I think the idea of it sounds pretty damn neato. :)

I feel like a retard for not having understood it before though, it seems so damn simple now.
