the Red Tornado thread got me thinking...
about the slightly different approaches that the two companies have gone about developing similar type characters & wondering who you think the Marvel/DC eqivalents might be? (some of them are pretty obvious)

    such as (for example)

    Hawkeye

    and

    Green Arrow

I believe that Batman and Wolverine are similar based on the fact that fanboys will argue that with his utility belt, Batman can take on anyone. In the same regard, Wolverine because of his healing factor is given the edge over most people.

really? i would've likened Batman more to Daredevil, in that they're both lacking in cosmic powers, and rely on their training & ability... although i'm sure theres someone more similar to Batman than Daredevil, i just can't think who at the moment (theres so many characters!!) the Punisher, maybe??????? :eek3:

but then again, i'd also put Batman next to Spiderman due to their 'icon' status... :dunno:

who was a Marvel superhero who didnt have cosmic powers, relied on training & skill, used a few gadgets & stuff & kicked ass...? (i know theres someone, but ive got a mental block...)

Doesn't Capt America have some powers from his genetic upgrade, though?

Maybe you're thinking of Tony Stark aka Iron Man? He didn't have any powers and he built his empire from the ground up.

    From marvel.com :

Powers: Enhanced by the Super-Solider Serum, Captain America's agility, strength, endurance and reaction time are superior to those of an Olympic-level athlete. Also, Cap has mastered a number of fighting forms, including American-style boxing and judo. These abilities, combined with his indestructible shield, make him one of the finest human combatants Earth has ever known.

I don't think he's got any powers, per se... He's like a super soldier, you know, stronger, faster, that sort of thing. Not much different than Daredevil with his heightened senses, sans sight...

i did consider that actually... but the Iron Man suit is more of a far cry from the Bat-gadgets than Captain America's mighty shield...

Then maybe you're thinking of this character called Iron Fist, who accept for the fact that he has metaphorically hands of steel, who relied on nothing but his martial arts to beat up on bad guys.

I also thought that Batman and Wolverine were similar because at the beginning of Wolverine's career, his costumer looked eerily similar to Batman's.

Iron Fist absorbed the living heart of a dragon, gaining its essence... he had more than just martial arts skills. :)

For Dr.Strange, why not go with another doctor and have DR.FATE!

[IMG] Both men deal with the occult in some form or fashion and they both have items that help them battle evil (Strange's cloak and Eye of Agametto (sp) and Fate has the Helmet)

I was thinking that Thor could be the equivalent for Superman but after thinking it over, he's probably better matched with Shazam! given that they can both take on superhuman form and human form.

    Superman & Wonderman :dunno:

Batman & the Punisher (punisher is just a normal human)

    Spiderman . . . I can't think of a DC equivilent.

y'know Wonderman was the only one that sprung to mind when I was thinking of a character who had similarities to Superman, but didnt mention it either... i was trying to think of more of an 'icon' character (Thor was the only other one, but seeing as though Superman wasnt a god... :dunno: )

I think Thor is really good match up with Superman, but he's definately not similar to him. Wonderman seem a better match up. Although storywise both Superman and Thor have had other characters take their place.

When Supes died there were those 3 other characters running around and eventually came back in that powered suit, and Thor had Beta Ray Bill take his place for a while and then came back with the enchanted armour.

I think that Silver Surfer is perhaps the best match in terms of origin and strength to Superman. Both heroes are not of earth, and both were taken away from their home planet both inauspicious circumstances. Kal-El was sent away from Krypton because it was about to blow up. Norrin Radd agreed to be Galactus' herald so that Galactus wouldn't eat his homeworld. Despite having different powers, they're both pretty powerful, I've never really seen Surfer get owned in a fight.Ever. Both heroes are...heroes for the most part, meaning despite the awesome powers they possess, they don't use it excessively or unnecessarily. Both seem very passive. Supe's always been perceived as a boy scout, while Surfer is more of a thinker than a fighter.

I never think of Surfer because he isn't based on earth. Strange huh?
