had a conversation with a couple people in our print lab today that said they drum up a ton of business using things like facebook and shit... True? You guys use it? Links?

I have a facebook through school, but I think i've logged on like once.

Which draws me to a larger question... How do you guys primarily market yourself? Just word of mouth? Through your web traffic?

Specifically those of you that shoot weddings/promotional stuff...

    Hmmm...

Dude, large companies are even using Facebook these days...

I personally don't have one, nor myspace, but I've read all sorts of business articles about that sort of thing. Seems like in today's world, if you aren't involved in some sort of social network site as a company, you're not doing well.

why not? huge network and you have millions of people on there... I have a 'adword' style ad on there that gets decent hits. No business, but once it hits, the payoff will be worth it. :dunno:

I dunno... I never invested much stock in those sites. Thought it was just a place for college kids to get laid.

Fair enough, learn me on this.

Girth, whats a 'adword' style ad?

How do you have it setup to show you're a business and not an individual?

basically, its "free" advertising. its the ads you see on the right side of the screen when you're on facebook or google. They're based on your search words, facebook 'likes' 'hobbies' and other things. You set it up, and you name your own price. And when people click on your ad, you pay what you said you were going to pay. The more you pay, the more your rotations are and how often your ads show up. I have mine set at 29 cents an ad and a limit of $25 a day... so basically, every hit I get I pay 29 cents. And if I get a TON of hits, I'll have a limit of $25 a day. Go to google adwords and read about it... its the same concept on facebook.

Jasmin Star, Becker, and DJ are marketing geniuses on facebook... every singel 'status update' Jasmine does gets 30+ comments on it. They networking like crazy on there... and although they're not successful because of facebook, I'm sure it adds to their image just to be on there.

Ive gotten a few jobs shooting bands from Myspace. Usually someone they know knows me and they go on there and see my work. I don't use it that much but it doesn't take much to just have one for the sake of having a sample, until I get my website running.

    Interesting...

So then it's really just her personal facebook page, but she uses it like a business contact page?

You can't create 'business' accounts on there, can you?

Do you guys have yours setup as photo blog/image sites?

you can create a business account. When people click on the ad, it doesn't go to a facebook page, it goes directly to whatever website you put in there. In my case, my photography website. I racked up a whopping $1.50 bill last month from the hits I got. :mamoru:

added, but all you really have to do is go to the right hand side of your screen... and click on the 'advertise' button toward the top.

    like so...

There is self marketing via facebook then you can do an adwords type campaign as well. You read Chase Jarvis' blog?
