In June I'm leaving for the service but i don't know where i wanna go yet. For the past year and a half I've been all about the Marines and was dead set on joining them. Then my brother started talking to me about joining the army and i was like fuck the army their lightweight because im trying to be elite which is why i like the marines cause they always get shit on and have it the toughest, and i like working in the dirt.

So my brother is in army ROTC at University of Michigan and hes always trying to convince me and recently he was tellin me about the Rangers. And i've seen black hawk down and read about them and how they're pretty raw. He went to robin sage or somethin like that and was tellin me how badass the rangers he saw there were. So its either join the Marines or try out for the Rangers. I want elite so I'm leaning towards rangers but i like what i've heard of the marines and how they have it the toughest. Theres never been a Marine in my family but there have been people in every other service. Im a smart kid so Im wary of going into the marines because i dont think my mind will be taxed enough like it would be in the rangers. What do you guys think?

what do you WANT TO DO as a job? Infantry apparently. Look at who's stirring up the shit, getting the job done and breaking bodies. I would say your options (depending on your physical abilities) would be Army Infantry, Marine Corps Infantry, Army ranger, Marine Corps Force Recon, etc. Army has a diversity of shit... and the Marine Corps just joined the world of SOCOM so look that up too. Go talk to recruiters.

When your brother did the Robin Sage detail, he saw some guys that were Ranger Tabbed. This means they had been to Ranger School but mostly likely did not spend their time in the Ranger Battalions. These guys were infact trying to become US Army Special Forces AKA Green Berets.

I would certainly choose Rangers over the Marines and more so Army SF over Rangers and the Marines.

If you want your mind to be challenged along with a physical challenge, then green berets are the only way to go. Only place you will do everything any other spec ops will do and have to learn a foreign language.

if you want to do "smart" things and be bad ass go Army Special Forces. If you just want to be bad ass and just blow shit up and kill shit go Rangers. no comment on the Marines.

thats the easiest most simple explanation I can give...

Im not going to college. My brothers goin in, my my was in, dad was, lots of relatives, and when i saw my grandpas funeral with the navy guys shooting their rifles and the other guy handing my grandma a folded flag it made me want that. Like to earn enough honor to deserve a funeral like that if i do die. Plus i need to get myself in order cause ive been slacking for like a year and a half. I like getting beat up in order to achieve something great. And i wanna blow shit up and kill people.

Slacking off like not caring about shit. I go to the gym and I run so Im good there, and its not that my attitudes off its just that I have no reason to push me to do things. Im thinkin the military will be that push.

seriously, marines aren't any more "elite" than regular army infantrymen.

still shooting shit at each other.....

They can't think for shit. We played all day, every time we engaged them or they engaged us, they'd pick a tactic and stick with it. Absolutely no critical thinking or adaptability.

are you in college or a college graduate? if not, and you're set on going in, it can't hurt to see if you can get a scholarship from the army or navy and then serve your time as an officer. rotc really isn't all that bad and it can't hurt to try it.
