in for humping mountains.
220 lbs... weight of a marine in hollywood gear on the C-5 (sorry, gotta practice for my check)
pi= paris island
I'll assume they want to know where you went to basic paris island or san diego
I think he is asking which is better/tougher
i went to san diego but i also stayed in lejeune for combat engineer school. when they say bugs they mean chiggers. and chiggers, my friend, are not just any bugs. and the swamps, the humidity, and the heat are not fun either.
honestly i would have rathered humped hills in the rain than train in PI. because, yes, it's more miserable.
if you think about it, its about the same difficulty just different conditions. But if you want to make this about an east coast:west coast thing then west owns all
biggie and tupac are dead already, stop the horse shit ..
this argument will never die because no Marine will ever go through both boot camps ... :beatdeadhorse: ... PI > Hollywood
SD has to be worse. PI is more "classic" maybe. I mean they DID film FMJ there u know? seriously though... yeah the humidity has to suck...but in the summer...its hot both places. leaning PI. But the mountains gotta make up for it and then some.
SD > PI
But I am biased. Here is why:
PI people complain about humidity and bugs. At certain times of the year SD can be just as bad. However, what PI is lacking is mental torture. The highway right next to the squad bays at Pendleton. Airplanes taking off and landing ALL the time next to MCRD.... FUCKING terrible torture....... Plus the "Camp Pendleton curse" Let me explan that.... Hot as 2 rats fucking in a wool sock during the day, cold as an icebox at night. Pulling firewatch can literally give you frostbite. Not to mention that the biting cold and wind during the winter is a bitch after humping.
Try standing at attention in the Pit with Mr. Sandflea and his 200 cousins having lunch on your face, neck, hands, and anywhere else they can go (like inside your ear). See if you don't get smoked for moving.
San Diego? Shit. I lived there for 4 years. If you complain about San Diego's weather, you need to move to Georgia or Louisiana (or some such) and learn what hot really is. I miss SD so much...
As far as MCRDSD being close to the airport and the barracks on Pendleton being close to the highway.. Doesn't matter.
You go to bootcamp on PI, and you'll believe you can swim that waterway to escape (most especially if you're in 1st Bn and have that nice view of all the lights and other shit).
Hollywood DI's usually call better cadences though. *shrug*
from what an old SgtMaj of mine who was a DI at both places....he said that PI is tougher mentally, while SD is tougher physically.
sounds like the best answer to me
btw, Hollywood Marine here
