MIL Marine OCS?

I'm a freshmen in college, I've always wanted to join the Marines. I was considering enlisting in force recon (if you are allowed to enlist in that). I got an email today from a Marine recruiter about doing OCS this summer. I'm starting to think maybe that would be a good idea to do. What do you think of OCS? Would it be worth it? I konw this is kind of a broad question, but I'm not sure if I want to enlist or become an officer. Heres a copy of the email, I'm just asking for opinions. The thought of me leading a group of people, and being responsible for their lives is kinda intimidating, but maybe I'm suppose to feel like that and the training will change me? I don't konw. I also want the full marine experience.

Did you know you can split your OCS training into two 6-week courses? :mamoru: 1 for one summer, and 1 summer the next year.

You go to OCS while you're going to college, in the summers. Then once you graduate college, you have to go to TBS, The Basic School, bootcamp for occifers. something like that.

So when would the commitment start? Once I finish OCS or once I graduate from college? You think it would be a good idea to go in as an officer considering I was going to enlist eventually anyways?

Go to www.marineocs.com . Since you are a freshman, you'll probably have to do the two 6 week summer option. That's the way I went and I think its better than the 10 week summer since your body starts breaking down towards the end of the 6 weeks.

officers with prior enlistment time, will get a lil more respect, than say a butter-bar Lt. straight out skool. But if you have the oppurtunity to go officer, then by all means go for it. You'll def make more $$ and won't have to play the "games" enlisted jr Marines have to.

commitment happens when and if you get offered a commission after OCS

(the if part is because I've been told that sometime (rarely) does someone who completes OCS not get offered up a commission)

Got an email back from the recruiter. He said I do OCS this summer and don't make the commitment until I graduate college.

    .

i went. i dropped after juniors, but it was still a good experience.

ps i would have done 10 weeks though, personally. but you dont get as much time in-service if you wait for OCC.

im pretty sure that those contracts are a minimum of 8yrs and enjoy it but remember black sides with black brass goes with brass also with the force recon thing you go in as recon/infantry then you put in a package to apply for the school

My school gave all our school email addresses to the Marines so now we get people emailing us, I assumed he was a recruiter.

i went after my sophomore year and would have gone again after my senior year. you dont have to go until youre ready. ideally, you shouldnt go until you can run a 275 PFT. I shipped with a 263 iirc and I had a hard time until about week 3. I finished juniors with a 274

call your local recruiter and tell him flat out youre NOT enlisting and to save his breath. this probably wont work so tell him again... and then ask for the number for the OSO in your area.

Since the college accepts money from the Federal Government, they have to provide contact information to recruiters upon the recruiter's request.

Not only that, but recruiters are required to contact the OSO when they talk to someone who is a grad or is enrolled in college.

I love how everybody wants to go Force Recon before they've marched a step.

That said, the PLC program is the best way to go, in my opinion.
