so this week (and possibly next) i am helping out a friend who owns a construction company and gutting a house that burned down. and then ripping half of the structure down.

its extremely intense labor for an 8 hour workday. i upped my food intake for today to compensate for the extra exertion and snacked periodically through the day so i am not worried about that. what i am wondering is how will this affect muscle recovery, and should i just take the next week off from the gym.

i killed my legs yesterday and they were sore as hell this morning but by the time lunch was over i barely felt the doms. is all the extra blood flow helping repair them quick or am i just wasting the workout?

Maybe for the week just do half the volume you usually do in the gym. Your body would adapt eventually but since its just one week...

no. one of the biggest fucking swinging cocks I know is a 60 year old competitive BBer who does construction. Don't be a pussy. Eat some food, hell.. drink some cold beers and enjoy working like a real man.

 rereading my post it does sound like im a pussy but to clarify i've been doing construction/home improvements for 4 years on and off now through school.. mostly electrical/bathroom remodels/plumbing/framing etc... this is somethin new, never had a full week of 10 hour days of all heavy demolition working through tar and heavy lifting. its good shit and i like it.

my post was not to bitch about doing hard work because im all about it but just to figure out what effects it had on muscle recovery.

on a side note, it was a fucking great energy release to just destroy everything in sight.

i think mid day naps are frowned upon in construction

by the way, that's horrible advice too. I'm all for drinking a little (or a lot), but when you're taxing the shit out of your body it really doesn't really need the extra hassle of recovering from alcohol. I know when I'm working my super long weeks (like literally 100 hr weeks) if I drink I'm fucked.

supposedly Jason Coker (one of the best shirted benchers in the US and benches 500+ raw on a weekly basis) moves furniture for a living...or at least he used too...

I saw him almost tear some random dudes head off at the Pro-Am last summer. Nice guy until you get under his skin then he explodes like a ton of dynamite.

You should be fine. You already increased your intake to counter the energy loss, which should be enough. If you're super sore and don't want to lift, then maybe take it easy or take an extra rest day. Your body will tell you what you need.

A group of us were sitting in the hotel lobby drinking beer, the dude came in from the pool and started asking us a bunch of n00b/stupid questions. He was drunk and for some reason was trying to get under Coker's skin. Finally, Donegan (BAG owner) told the dude quietly to fuck off and go away. He probably didn't want to have to bail Coker out of jail.
