Basically, trying to find a way to use a 40MB excel file, that completely absorbs the CPU usage when calculations are run. Machine is a 1.8ghz pentium M w/ 1.0GB of ram...any ideas on how to keep the system from hanging when calculations are run?

Is there a real need to have such a big Excel file??

I know, it's not near the limit, but still...

Yeah, you can turn off the automatic calculations. It will only update when you need force it to then. If you've already done that, then no, there isn't a way other than splitting them up into separate files
