Man shot, wounded at Merced County Superior Courthouse

A man who stormed through security at the Merced County Courthouse carrying two large knives was shot by a sheriff's deputy inside Courtroom Two at about 2:45 p.m.

The suspect was described as heavyset white male in his late 20s or 30s. Witnesses say he ran down the hall in the courthouse carrying a long knife in each hand.

"He didn't say anything," said witness Dartagnan Hutcherson, who was in Courtroom Two. "He just came in. He was out of breath."

Hutcherson said a sheriff's deputy shot the suspect four or five times in the stomach.

Witnesses at the scene said the suspect's body was still in Courtroom Two at 3:30 p.m. Police could not confirm whether the suspect was dead.

Lets see....Courthouse is right next to the SO and PD....not a good idea to wave knives around, unless you are looking for Suicide-by-Cop

So I was in my Reserve Police Academy (yes, it's almost as :mamoru: as that sounds) class on Tuesday....the lead instructor was a Sgt. with MCSO, and he had a few things to say about the incident.

    1) the unarmed security "whiteshirts" only have Tasers...and they just got those last week, it seems
    2) he was running, no time to get Tasers into action
    3) 3 deputies were in the courtroom that this guy entered
    4) deputies had just enough time to form a "line of scrimmage" in front of the judge's bench before the shots
    5) they tried telling him to stop, drop the knives, etc. No success
    6) "at least one shot...but I hear it was a pretty good group"

probably they were trying to get attention from deputies onto the guy running in with the fucing knives? :dunno:

especially since mos people weren't looking straight at him until something else got their attention, most likely--like a deputy DA shouting "he's got a knife!"
