Man Uses Sword to Fight Off Burglars

(Minneapolis) - It was just are 3:30 Wednesday morning when a Minneapolis apartment dweller was forced to defend himself and his property with a sword.

Police say they got a call from residents of the 3100 block of Lyndale Avenue South that four people had forced their way into a residence.

According to police, once the burglars were inside, they got into a fight with one of the residents who grabbed his roommates sword and started slashing the intruders. His feisty attack send the invaders running, but not before he wounded several.

Shortly after Minneapolis police arrived, they were called by doctors at the hospital about the arrival of three people to the ER with severed fingers and lacerations.

One had minor injuries and was treated and arrested. The other two were more seriously injured and were treated. They’ll be transported to the Hennepin County Jail when they are released by the hospital.

The apartment resident was slightly injured in the attack.

    Police continue investigating the incident.

In the end there can be only one! :eek3: Hopfully after this is over he learns his lesson and gets a better defensive weapon.

Sure, but by the time those guys cross the room at a full sprint you'll still be clearing leather. It's a real eye opener when you start doing knife/handgun training. The Tueller drill really shows how long a "fast" draw really is. From super close proximity you really can't beat a blade of any kind.

If I had to choose between drawing a sword and drawing a gun, I'll choose a gun :hs:

I wonder what kind of sword it was? I'd be willing to guess that it was just some cheap "decorative" blade. I guess they're not the worthless pieces of shit that some people argue they are :hs:.

I have a cheap samurai ninja sword dealy i got for like $40, against flesh I think it would do some damage, I'de be scared to use it if I was hitting something solid or going against another blade I think it would break.

Lacerations? LACERATIONS? Sharpen the sword, you twat! They should be calling from the ER about amputations and deep tissue cuts!

That is fucking awesome. I might just go dig out my NCO sword for less lethal HD purposes

I got a cheap $13 sword. It was pretty dull, so I brought it to my friend's shop and sharpened it on his bench grinder. It's pretty cheaply made, but after the sharpening, I bet it could still cut somebody up pretty bad.

I have seen quite a few of the cheapy swords that are pretty sharp, and not terribly bad quality. Equal to a cheap knofe, def do the light duty work but maybe won't last a lifetime.

I also have a Civil War saber (it's my family's heirloom) and it's pretty dull. I know it's a different kind of fighting but it's generally accepted that a sharp sword is more likely to cause you to hurt yourself on horseback but will still cut someone's appendages off if you sling it at them. I suppose sabers are more designed for thrusting anyway... Just something worth noting...
