I get my hair trimmed at least once a week, keeping the back tapered up to the top. My hair, when combed, is probably 2" and doesn't come near my eyebrows. I haven't seen an actual inch regulation, only the eyebrow rule.

So if I'm abiding by that, why the fuck does every NCO ask me about my hair?

oh and Marines are allowed up to 3 inches up on top as long as it is in neat appearance, :wiggle:

In the Air Force it is 1 1/2" on top when groomed and it can't touch your eye brows, I think...

I have a good question related to the hair reg in the Army:

You are not to have highlights correct? If this is correct then you are to do one of the following: Either dye it all back to your natural hair color or shave it all off.

I have a "debate" with a fellow Specialist about this and we are both in agreement in this idea of thought but we don't know the exact reg on it. Reason for the question is because while deployed a soldier in our unit went on his four day pass to Qatar and came back with highlights. The command took him to the barber and only got a tappered like haircut. Wonder if any one would like to comment.

Oh, this was a male Soldier.

I'm not Army, but common sense would be to cut the hair until the highlights are no longer attached to his head.

army regs say a natural hair color, not YOUR natural hair color. so you if you can pull out some proof then you can do whatever you want

i know i dont like my soldiers to have long hair simply because i dont like the fact theyre just trying to see how far they can push the regs. why bring attention to yourself?
youre in the army because you wanted to be there - isnt it just easier going along so you can get along?

Yeah, his hair color is black, not a "blondeish" color that highlights give you. The command apparently didn't care that much and let him slide with it and made sure he got the tappered haircut. Leaving the highlights on top. He works in the DFAC and has his patrol cap on when on duty and shit, but that's beside the point. My opinion is that he must shave it down to where the highlights are not visiblem, but that's just me and my common sense talking. My command is somewhat stupid at times.

A reg is a reg, if they wanted it shorter, the Army would change the reg.

actually, the hair can't protrude below the front band of properly worn head gear. I guess those that don't wear their cover right get a free pass.

actually, just gauging from your post, once you become an nco, youll want your soldiers to look their best as well. i want my guys to look like professional soldier, not like ragtag troops.

hair length is frequently (but not always) an indicator of other things going on in the soldier's head that you can't see so easily.

qft. face being shaved and hair length or upkeep are 2 very noticeable signs your soldier might be having problems. one of our "good" soldiers recently started coming in barely shaved and his hair a mess. someone tipped off our 1sgt that he was doing drugs. we pissed him that day and sure enough - he pissed hot...

Try telling that to the Top or your commander when they chew you out because one of your men looks like shit.

Try believing that after you've received said butt-reaming more than once because of the same soldier.

If his hair is within standards, there should be no butt-reaming. Unless of course you enjoy butt-reamings, which I think Ranger is partial to.
