anyone ever use blurb/booksmart? Other comparable places? How's the print quality and color accuracy??

The film noir stuff i'm working is going to end up in a book. The instructor has recommended using booksmart. It seems legit enough, and the samples i've seen have been pretty nice...

But I'm having so much fun with this project that I want to do it right, and get a book i'll be proud of when all is said and done..

    recommendations?

I've never tried to make one, but I've always thought it'd make a nice gift. So, I'm in for suggestions as well.

i've done a blurb book, and for the whopping $40 it costs for one, i thought it was a great deal. If you want a pimp $$$$$ book, this isn't it.

i did it. the software is moronically easy.

if you have the hand/eye coordination of my drunken uncle, you could still probably drag & drop your pics into their template. it's stupid easy.

don't get me wrong - the quality isn't amazing or anything, but for $40? Just for kicks? Shit, it's a no-brainer.

wasnt that blurb book something you did as a gift that the B&G had a photog and you were a guest and took photos that they liked more? I think I remember that

    it's called booksmart.

go to blurb.com and read all about it there.

Is blurb the only one that does this?

I want something that looks like you'd pick it up at Borders or something...

Is there like a 'blurb pro' or something?

i'm not really following you, i don't think.

there are a TON of album design joints out there - this one prints full bleed and is really f'n cheap for acceptable quality.

i wouldn't make one of these for my own wedding, but for a coffee table book? hell yeah.

I guess what I was asking is whether or not there are other places out there that aren't geared towards wedding books, and instead are geared towards a more general, but higher quality coffee table book...

ITW's list is freaking awesome, but I wouldn't use those places to have a really good book made for landscapes or some other personal type project.

Most, if not all of the places are setup for pro wedding photog's who are going to be pumping out a couple books a month for rich brides... Hell, most of em even require you to prove yourself as a pro photog before you can get in and see the options/prices...

(which is great if your a wedding photographer and don't want your clients to see how much you paid...)

Our instructor recommended blurb because it allows for anyone to create a book for whatever fun project or series of photos they want...

Which makes a lot more sense than using a wedding specialty book maker.

But I wanted to class it up a bit, with thicker paper, perhaps even matte paper, etc....

I'll prolly just end up using blurb for the book, then printing my own prints on some Epson Ultrasmooth Fine Art and keeping both around for my portfolio...

Just while on the topic even though they aren't what you're looking for. I picked up some cheap books at Christmas time from Lulu at $9 each just as a cheap gift to give to close family and friends. Probably calling the quality average would be an overstatement but for people who don't have the internet and are interested in my work, it made it a good opportunity to share recent shots from that year.

    but moving on

I got an email from a print company I use offering 50% off on this website > https://www.picpresscart.com/picpress/register.php?lab=RGB I think just sign up and they send you a voucher but only lasts until August 31st.

What was that Italian company someone got books from? Was pretty cheap IIRC.

    Jared,
Though I suspect the book(s) I did are low tech, and from of all places,
WalMart, but they did a helluva job, imo. The leather bound 100 pager which
is linked, was ~$93 inc. overnight shipping. I don't know who WallyWorld
uses, but it was very well done. The format/pagination prog. is pretty good
and offers considerable page options, pic opts., and text.

We did the big leather bound one for my wife's father and a smaller paper bound
one for us; a collection of our pics from our trip to Antarctica this past Jan.,
which my wife's father paid a bunch of that cost, as a present to us. Thus, the
coffee table book as a thank you to them.

I'd guess the snarkiness level here would disregard WalmartNation outta hand, but
who the fook cares what anyone really thinks.
    My 25Cts is up.
