    Has anyone watched this 3 part series that is played on TV like once a month?

    It used to be called Making Marines --- now they changed the name to Parris Island.

    It follows a few recruits -- male and females -- through their 3 months at boot camp.

    I think it is on the Discovery Channel or The Learning Channel.

    Anyone?

    That show makes me laugh. The Drill Sergeants are comical in the way they snap their head back and forth, and constantly blink their eyes. I know it's a technique that is suppose to create a image of aggression, but it's fucking hilarious. And half of the Marines are crying during the show. :rofl: I have seen numerous shows on Marine bootcamp, and there is nothing that they show that is any more difficult or stressful that Army basic training. This show really does ruin the myth of how difficult the Marine Corp bootcamp is.

    From what I hear from every Marine I talk to, the DI's do a lot of stuff they aren't supposed to do to make it tougher. I really doubt the DI's would chance doing that if they are on TV.

    I've been told too much by Army guys about how easy theirs is, and by Marines about how hard theirs was, to believe it was a myth.

    I've seen the show and I've been through USMC boot. There are things they aren't going to do in front of cameras. I don't mean they beat you up or anything, but they do make it rough.

    some of the stuff that seems comical to you while you watch seems comical to the recruits also, only they can't sit there and laugh about it. drill instructors are constantly testing you in different ways to see if you can maintain composure, etc.

    OT member that mailed crak600 (another OTer) his Marine basic training address and asked him to post it. It became an 11tybillion page long sticky in the main forum. He got so much goatse and gay mail his DIs made his life a living hell. One of his DI's actually tried to create an account on OT but couldn't figure out how. BigFodee finally wrote to everyone he had an address for to beg them to stop sending mail. :rofl:

    I know why they do certain things in bootcamp. I have only been in the military for 11 years now. And in regards to the DI's doing things to make it "tougher", give me a fucking break. :rofl: Marines really do make me laugh with this bullshit. As if the other services don't PT the shit out of you, and call you bad names. Sounds to me like the majority of Marines are pussies and can't handle someone calling them a bitch of pussy.

    And what I mean by this in a nonconfrontational manner is that in my opinion some Marines react to the stresses of basic training differently than I would. :bigok:

    benning is in georgia. it's army infantry training.

    army = fort
    marines = camps
    AF = base

    for most cases.
    if it's in a coastal city it's most likely marines/navy.
