...just got an account w/ dreamhost and i'm using dreamweaver 8 for the first time making a webpage.

really, my 1st webpage other than the bs one i had to do for an ISDS class.

i'm interested in doing a photo gallery on it. any easy ways to do this?

ideally looking for a way to make a page w/ a clean layout of thumbnails that i can categorize, click the thumbnail and you get the full res.

<a href></a> thumbnail, and forward to another page with the full size image. Is that what you are looking for?

The easy way to do it would be using a scripting language, but seeing that you're just beginning, you'll have to do all the work yourself in terms of adding new photos, and creating thumbnails.

It should be pretty straight forward.

    PHP:
    <a href="locationOfLargeImage.jpg"><img src="locationOfSmallImage.jpg"></a>
Just make sure you actually have smaller pictures for thumbnails. I have seen people just resize the images with html tags.

Also, there are programs that will scan a directory for images, create thumbnails, and make the html. Or you can automate it even more by using a script on the website like someone else suggested.

You're going to have to use a scripting language like PHP unless you want to update the HTML everytime you add an image.

There's one here and plenty more out there available for use.

search google for arles image creator. you can select your photos and it will automatically build a gallery with html files for you (so you dont even have to use dreamweaver)

    got gallery2 working, thanks again.

didn't even know it was a "one click install" with dreamhost :o

now if only i could change the colour settings on the theme i've chosen.

i'm using smartFTP as my client right now and it seems easy enough.

i was j/w where to upload it onto the ftp but then found that dreamhost had a "one click install" that just entailed setting up the mySQL database and the rest was automated save for the gallery2 config.

    actual file install was automated.
