If I picked up a cheap extra barrel for my 870, would I be able to just submit the form to the ATF/get it signed/etc and pay the $200, then take a pipe cutter to the barrel? I've been thinking of making myself a short barrel shotgun just for the hell of it, but I get the feeling that the ATF wouldn't let it be that simple

you can do it for a $5 tax stamp if you just buy a AOW short-barrel shotgun.

Well it is a movie prop, I doubt they cared too much about the accuracy of their props.

After all, the movie was set in 1980 and Llewelyn picked up an HK SP89 off the dead Mexican. SP89s did not come out until... you guessed it, 1989. :mamoru:

Not to jack the thread, but say somebody already had an SBS or SBR. Could you then just do the same thing to make it legal (fill out form, pay tax), or is that somehow different?

    Totally hypothetical, of course.

I would've checked my DVD but I let someone borrow it :sad2:

Thats weird though cause the link is to a prop gun from the movie but I'm sure they had quite a few so oh well :dunno:

    lol I don't know.

I thought it was pretty fucking funny though. It sounds like an airgun in the movie.

I'm actually thinking more about picking up a real cheap side by side 12 gauge and sawing that down. Mostly so when I'm at the range and anybody asks the make/model, I can hold it about my head and say, "This.... is my BOOMSTICK!"

Unless you rolled your own shotgun shells, most commercial stuff would be over the sound barrier.

no, the $5 is a transfer tax on AOW (no stock) but to manufacture an AOW you still have to pay the $200 tax, same as if you're manufacturing (or transferring) an SBS or SBR.

I saw something when I was looking for that picture that said suppressors on a shotgun only reduce the sound by about 6db.

You also have to get SBS's and SBR's engraved. There is a specification on how deep the engraving must go, and probably how large it must be.

Oh I did, I just felt very unsatisfied after watching it, especially in comparison to the rest of the movie :wtc:
