I'm not really sure how to ask this question. Assuming I'm eligible and have done all the necessary paper work, how long does it take for a claim to process to where I start seeing money in my account?

An estimate would be nice. :hs:

I was going to do this but.... I'm afraid the gun laws will work against me in a ptsd case.

Depending on how focused you are, it will take 3-6 months before you see your first compensation check.

    Thank you!
I knew it would take a while for everything to process. That's the way the gov't works. Always taking their time with paperwork.

Now I gotta take myself to the VA Claims place and get started on it tomorrow.

It's nice to have a rough estimate. :bigthumb:
Hopefully, I'll be eligible and receive back pay.

There's rumors flying around that documented PTSD refrains you from owning or purchasing a firearm since a bill went through after that whole Virginia Tech thing with mental instability.

    Just google PTSD +guns +law

It might vary from state to state

If you have all of your medical records that apply to the claim, and if you stay on top of your VA appointments, and if all of your documentation syncs with what they find when they have their doctor look at you, you'll be on the short end of that estimate I gave.

I wasn't that interested in pursuing compensation, so I kept canceling appointments. And I gave them a bare minimum of documentation for my injury. I think I started the process the first week in August, and I received my first check (with back pay) in January.

Yeah, my med records will have to come from Missouri. I hear it takes a while for them to retrieve it. :hs:
