ive heard of people doing this, but they were usually film studios

my grandparents who are old wanted me to make a black and white picture they have from 1947 to convert it to color. They white is stained yellowish.

any advice I would greatly appreciate it.

:ugh: what do you think we've been talking about. the pic I posted WAS a B&W photo that I "digitally touched up" to make it color. You're obviously not cut out to do this job. either A) Find somewhere local that will do it for you, or B) send it to me and I'll give you a quote on how much I'll charge you to do it. :x:

You obviously have no clue what you're doing. If you want it done right, find someone to do it for you.

If you expect good results, this would be the desired course of action..pay a good photoshopper to do it for you.

    Photoshop takes skill and patience

You're going to want to get a normal box of children's crayons. Shade over the photo with the appropriate colors (or as close as you can). It's not that important to stay "inside the lines," just get it close. Now you are going to have to put it in a color scanner and scan it, but scan it in B&W. You do this to get the correct luminosity and tonal range for the colors. Now open the photo in Photoshop and use the "heal brush" around the edges where you colored "outside the lines" Once you have it cleaned up, select "colorize." You may need to adjust the Hue and Saturation slightly, but it should be pretty close to what you wanted by now!
