Maintaining strength/body while not lifting...

  1. So at most I'll be able to lift 1-2 times a week when I feel up to it...

What can I do so I don't get too weak between now and when I'm done with this crap (Cancer treatment, yay!)?

Should I just try to do more lifts on the days that I do go? Maybe like a chest/tri/shoulder day and a back/bi/legs day?
What should my diet look like? I'm willing to eat whatever and pretty much sit around all day so I have time to cook up whatever I want. No school, no job...bleh.

I just started popping my pills on Monday and I already don't feel too hot. I won't be able to lift today that's for sure. Then next week they're trying a different approach and are going to see what works better and then maybe the week after I'll do both at once. :barf:

I just don't want to be done with this shit and end up like skinny bitch boy like I started out benching 95lbs or some crap. :o

I dunno brosef, hitting the gym 2 times a day is pretty weak sause

  5. :o Thanks for the support. :ugh:

The gym is a way for me to get my head out of where it normally is so to me I think it will benefit my "recovery".

Any one want to post a real reply? :hsugh:

I figured that. I would say do some moderate lifting on those two days like you mentioned. Try to concentrate on big compounds and eat well. You WILL loose strength because of the chemo no matter what, probably, but might as well minimize the damage.

Edit: Diet wise, whatever you do DO NOT eat under maintenance. If you're working out less and start loosing weight the muscle will be the first to go.

remain in the gym and lift when you can but you're obviously going to lose some mass and strength during the treatment. I honestly wouldn't stress over it, just do what you can and don't let your size and strength losses discourage you. just think about how much weaker you'd be getting if you weren't lifting

talk to your doctor and explain all of your concerns. only he/she will be able to tell you the maximum safe amount of physical activity.

    good luck with treatment

What kind of response did you expect?

To be blunt if you're getting radio/chemo therapy and you're asking an online forum what the best course of actions is during recovery and not your doctor ... then you're not that intelligent.

But of course best of luck with the treatment.

muscle memory... even if you do get small again it will come back really quick if you eat enough when you start back up

:werd: i put 30 lbs on my 1RM bench in 4 weeks when i started lifting again after a few years bro, and one of those weeks i was sick. strength comes back real fast; mass will take a while longer but it's still fast.

Dude just focus on getting better

Once you get better you have the rest of your life to worry about being swole.

Plus if someone talks shit to you about being skinny you can be like "dude I had cancer lay off" and that is pretty much the best comeback ever. Pretty sure they will go home and cry because they feel so bad.
