Just read through the retarded California laws for allowing handguns for sale in their great state. One of them required any semi-auto handgun with a removable magazine to have a "magazine disconnect mechanism."

Can someone explain exactly what that means? I don't quite follow..:dunno:

if the magazine isn't in the gun, it won't fire.

    Ah.

I'm pretty sure my USPc will fire without my magazine inserted... :dunno:

Some guns like the BHP, it's a standard deal. Others, like the M&P it's an option

A stupid one at that. IMO, the use of that single round without a mag outweighs the "safety" of it.

If you would like me to explain further, I can.

I think its a stupid requirement although my opinion differs from PT's on its usefulness. I've never heard of a single documented instance where someone's life was saved by being able to fire the round in the chamber without the magazine in. Its probably happened but the number of times has got to be pretty small. There are a ton of people who have been shot that wouldn't have been if they had a magazine disconnect on their gun. It should of course be your choice. Personally I don't consider it a positive or a negative, its just there.

My M&P has the mag disconnect, but I can't really see myself needing more than 3-4 shots, max in a situation and I doubt my mag will be removed during that time. if anything, I see it as a positive. If compromised, I can remove and chuck the mag, thus preventing my gun from being used against me.

However, I doubt that I'll EVER use my gun against someone, much less have to worry about it being used against me. I just don't see that situation unfolding.

Never know man. Who knows if there will be one attacker, two, three? Stuff like that probably isn't going to happen in the middle of a baseball field either. Obstacles could be in the way between you and your attacker(s). In all likelihood, you would end up shooting more than you think.

i got the mag safety option on my M&Pc just incase i'm letting someone (women :mamoru: ) shoot it at the range and they do something dumb like trying to clear it by racking the slide and then taking out the mag. i know its dumb, but it happens.

It should be an option. I think it can be pretty usefull, and I've heard of instances where it has worked to save a possible life, but I'm not sure I would use one in my carry gun. It adds another layer of complexity that I would have to worry about.

Whether you think it's a good option or not, I still think it's pretty :riaa: of California to require it.

I don't like them requiring anything, because they will just keep chipping away til they get to their "final solution" for gun owners. However, I don't mind having stuff like this as an option for gun buyers.

A lot of LEO depts like it so their officer's guns can't be used against them. I'll take mine without it though, thanks.
