I need a new puter. I'm going to drop a load of cash on a new one & do not want pc.

    Recommend?

Want: non-peripheral cd/dvd thingie, & stuff that generally doesn't suck.

I went into the mac store the other day & it was like I was sand/snow blinded. Everything looked the fucking same.

Also: Gimmie reasons to put out effort to re-familiarize with mac. Have been on PCs for most of my computing days. Why do Macs rule over PC?

    kthx

well, your wants are pretty vague, but i'll assume that you are looking for a desktop so that narrows you down to iMac and Mac Pro. If you are looking for general day-to-day usage (web/mail/basic to moderate media editing, etc) and don't mind a built in screen then the iMac is a fantastic machine. If you need professional grade performance that will wipe the floor with pretty well anything else in it's class, and have really deep pockets then go Mac Pro. Note that the latter doesn't come with a monitor built in, so be prepared to shell out for a nice LCD display as well.

    Details. Overwhelming.

Sounds like you want a mac just for the sake of having one.

I want to get a mac for photography, photo edit/retouch & graphics. Don't want cheap-ass shit. Need to get a freaking awesome camera, too, but that's another thread.

you ask these questions as if you are overwhelmed with choices. want cheap/low end? mac mini. want midrange (don't mind built in monitor)? iMac. want to blow a lot of money for a monster PC? mac pro. that's it. 1, 2 or 3.
