Posted in the main forum, but in here for the Photo Crew!

Wow, just trying some macro shots with the new 1D MARK II.

Here is a 100% crop (800x600) of a Canuck $20 bill using a 100mm lens at about 2-3 foot distance.

100% crop with the same lens in 'macro mode' as close as you can get

100% crop with the same lens with a 50mm lens, "reverse mounted" in front of it

    huh?

Sharp lens. But I gotta ask, why is everyone so infatuated with macro shots???

Funny you should say that, this is really my first one.

I was going to get rid of my macro lens, it has been loaned out more than I used it, I don't care for the FOV on a 1Ds, but now that I have a 1DmkII, it's fairly useful.

I think mostly it's because they let you see stuff like you could never see with your eyes. I've seen some amazing pictures of bugs where you could see every detail of their body. I think it's liking it because it's something you can only get from pictures.

Good point. It just seems to me that every other post are macro shots. I guess macro lenses are so common today. I'm "old school" and still use a bellows and/or cu diaopters for still work.

I'm quite sick of seeing macro shots. Ever since they put "MACRO" button on cameras, I see them all the time now.Marcophotograhpy used to be expensive, because you had to purchase equipment.

Macro stuff for the most part seems like a newbie photography thing. "Hey look at me, I don't know about composition or any other function on my camera except for the flower function"

So what if people do macro shots? If the picture turns out good, what's the problem?

No problem, it just seems like half the pics posted here are macro shots. The rest are landscapes. Personally I like to see a little variety. People tend to get to enthralled with the "macro" function.
