I know that Macintosh is tight with the MPAA and that they specifically block commercial DVD burning through their software.

I ripped a DVD on my PC and converted it to both a disc image and a bin/cue, then transfered it to the Mac over the LAN. Then did the whole drag/drop/burn on the Mac. The disc was unreadable on my PC and DVD player.

I also tried burning just an MPEG2 file and it also didn't work.

Does the Mac change the format when it burns data DVDs?

Is there any other way to backup my collection using this drive?

Can I run the drive from my PC over the LAN?

    Thanks,

    JK

No, it works just fine and I've done it using my superdrive. What program are you using to burn?

Just the stuff built into OSX, just drag the files from the shared folder and drop them on the blank disc, then trash the disc and it burns automatically.
