I just ran the latest software update (graphics, security patch and pro app updates) and after the reboot my Macintosh HD icon is gone.

    WTF??? :madfawk:

The computer is working fine and the drive is mounted, there's just no icon on my desktop or under Devices in the Finder. What kind of bullshit is this?

nope, that's fine. It relates to this: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305402

Fucking gay ass shit. I'm not an ADC member either, so I think I'm fucked for getting xCode.

EDIT: meh. Turns out ADC membership is free for downloads, but xCode is 1.1GB. 1 hour download just so I can unhide a fucking volume. Gay.

chances are you already have it chimpo.

go to the terminal and type:
    locate SetFile

it will then spit out if it is on your hd anywhere.
