Karo Parisyan (17-4) is likely to return to action at UFC 78 on November 17 and could face PRIDE FC veteran Hayato “Mach” Sakurai (30-7-2) in a welterweight showdown, according to MMAWeekly.com.

    Here’s the snip:

“UFC welterweight contender Karo Parisyan … will most likely fight on the upcoming UFC taking place in New Jersey … One name that has been mentioned amongst possible opponents is Hayato “Mach” Sakurai, who would be making his return to the UFC at 170lbs.”

Sakurai is an outstanding fighter who would be making his first appearance inside the Octagon since a technical knockout loss to Matt Hughes in a championship bout at UFC 36 in 2002. The Japanese star was most recently spotted ringside at UFC 73: “Stacked” last month.

Throughout his career “Mach” has gone up against some of the most talented fights in the sport, from lighweight all the way up to middleweight. In addition to Hughes, he’s competed against UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva (loss), Jake Shields (loss) Ryo Chonan (loss), Joachim Hansen (win), Shinya Aoki (win), Takanori Gomi (loss), Frank Trigg (win), Jens Pulver (win) and Caol Uno (win) among so many others.

Put simply, he’s one of the best in the business, whether he wins or loses.

Parisyan is fresh off a unanimous decision win over Josh Burkman at UFC 71 this past May and has won seven of his last eight fights. He’s done enough to earn himself a crack at the welterweight crown, but it’s widely belived he’ll have to secure at least one if not two more wins before he gets the chance.

That’s because current 170-pound champion Matt Serra is booked to defend the strap against Matt Hugehs on New Year’s Eve weekend in December. Then, the winner or that fight, will more than likely draw the winner of the UFC 74 showdown between Georges St. Pierre and Josh Koscheck.

The article also mentions that UFC newcomer Hector Lombard has been mentioned as a possible opponent for “The Heat.” That doesn’t sound nearly as appealing as a fight between Parisyan and Sakurai, however.

    like whoa :eek3:

Bad fight for Karo, Sakurai is such a beast

It'll be a great fight though.

don't see how it's a bad fight for karo. if anything, i think it's an awesome matchup in just about every category

mach's judo is pretty solid, and although he's nowhere near the caliber of karo, he should be able to neutralize lots of it at least. both are solid on the ground. mach picks people apart on the feet, whereas karo goes for broke

I honestly feel that w/ Sakurai's striking, he can keep karo at bay until there is a good opportunity to shoot a double or single, try to stay away from karo's Judo.

In reality the Judo is just going to get you to the ground anyway, and I feel that Sakurai can survive on the ground enough to cause problems for Karo.

That being said its a fairly even fight, but personally I feel that Sakurai has the experience to deal with Karo.

    hughes beats serra for title.
Gsp beats Hughes again for title.
Karo beats mach to finally earn his title shot and hopefully doesn't pull out for injury this time.
Gsp wins his first title defense against karo.

    What exciting times for 170.

Hopefully winner gets the next title shot, but the break between fights may be too long.

Either way this fight would puts the winner on the fast track to the title... Karo has more ufc experience and I believe he wants that title shot more than mach does. Mach will do his best to present and exciting fight and leave it in the cage. Karo will fight to win. He knows how the judges score in ufc and will outpoint mach in every round by jabbing, getting the takedown, and maintaining top position. Karo by unan dec.

on paper, it's a pretty close matchup. however, i think cage experience + size advantage will skew things in karo's favor

Mach cannot KO or submit Karo because Karo WILL get the takedown. Karo can submit him and have the upper hand on the ground, also he has never been knocked out or submitted, where as Mach has been KO'd and subbed before. I just dont see how this match will stay on the feet where Mach has the advantage.

and that's why i said that it's evenly matched, however size and cage experience may be the deciding factor
