Have any of ever turned on your Macbook Pro and everything goes normally except that the screen continues to display black and never changes? I had this happen to me this morning and managed to figure it out after reading some posts on the official mac support forums.

Apparently if you take it to a Genius Bar there's a good chance they'll diagnose it as a hardware problem and the replace the logic board. :eek3:

Well it happened again, two days after I fixed it. I called up Apple and they wanted to charge me a "flat rate" for hardware fix of $250. :ugh: Sounds like I'm going to drive out the the Apple store this weekend to yell at someone.

This confirms it's not a hardware issue:

Does your MBP happen to have an NVidia graphics card?
