So I am considering upgrading my ram on my macbook pro from 2gb to 4. Its the 17" 2.4 ghz intel core 2 duo (last one before unibody).

My question is, how noticable would this upgrade be?

depending on how much you have running on average it might help but then again it might not. I do alot on my mbp and only have 2gb and monitor it and very rarely run out. install istat and look at how much you are using. if it's over 70% on average then it would probably be worth it.

It makes a HUGE difference. I wouldn't run OS X without at least 4GB of RAM these days. Then again I'd have 32GB in my MBP if it was an option.

another way to confirm is check the speed in the system profiler on both systems.

/Applications/Utilites/System Profiler.app (or something like that)

i don't have a mac in front of me right now, but you should be able to see something similar to that on both computers.

I think your macbook and macbook pro will both have PC2-5300, if the MBP is faster but still PC2 it should just clock down in the MB and run just fine. So as long as both are PC2-xxxx you are good.
