Is it better to use up a full battery of the macbook THEN charge it. Or is it okay to just leave the AC adapter plugged in regardless of how much battery is left?

NO. Never run down a lithium battery. It causes the electrolyte inside the battery cells to crystallize, which over time will build connections between the + and - terminals, shorting the battery cells out and making them useless.

Use the battery until it's at 10% or so, then charge it back up.

On the other hand, NiMH batteries like to be run dry every now and then, and NiCAD batteries need to be run dry before recharging them.

wait so its bad if i only use it until like 50 % and then top it off?

it would be pretty inconvenient to have to use it until almost depleted in order to charge it again.
