Ok, here's the problem, I have a router that is wired directly to my laptop (not mac). The laptop works fine when wired or wireless, and have had 3 different routers that have worked fine with it. My girlfriend has a iMac G5, and at random the router drops the connection completely on her's and my machine. At first I thought it was just a bad router, but she had to send in her mac for repairs recently and the signal dropping suddenly stopped. She got it back the other day and all of a sudden the router starts acting up again. The router is a WRT54G, and her mac is hooked up wirelessly. Does any one know what could be the problem, sorry if that is too long and vague.

Is it a WRT54G v5? That's the kind I had and it really sucked with random drops. A few weeks ago it stopped speaking to my Macs altogether.

I ended up replacing the router with a D-Link.

i have a wrt54g and have never had any issues with any computer connecting to it. im guessing the newer ones are shittier because my cousin bought one and it drops connections all the time. to the point where he has to unplug it and replug it for it to work again.

I have a WRT54g, it works great with my mac. I've had my mac for about 2 weeks now and zero problems as of yet. The bottom says ver 2.

wow. ive always thought the wrt54g was better than that, i'd be interested to know if its just newer ones.

2x airport extremes here.. not cheap but have worked flawlessly for years.

From what I read, they used to be great routers and then they really crippled the v5.

These days you can buy a WRT54GL (?) or something like that which is supposedly not as bad.
