I CANNOT FUCKIN WAIT. I have wanted one of these from Apple since I got my powermac. I have heard minute wishes and rumors before, but Apple patent filing sealed the deal. Apple signed for a patent today for a gesture input registering device.

Check out the pics in the link below. I love the fact that so much is done without a stylus. The zooming in and out gesture is genius. I will get one the day it is released.

Not that patent drawings are great to go off of for reference, but as far as looks go, I would guess that if you took a PowerMac, ripped off the top-half with the screen, and laid down a flat face (Like the current ipods) that was nothing but a screen under glass, you would probably have the tablet.

there are tons of apple patents that apple never uses. A while back Apple patented a device and tradmarked the word "JAMBOX" it was supposed to be a device that connected to a mac's firewire port and any musical piece. Apple has yet to release such and item. so my best guess would be that the patents for the tablet are more for stuff that they've created in the labs at apple.
i highly doubt they'll ever release one at all

There's a device called an "MBOX" that I think does the same thing.

The MBOX is, I believe, a device made by DigiDesign Inc. that acts as an input mixer for digital music recording. My father has a Digi 002, which is quite a bit nicer. And bigger.

This I know. However, when you have Steve Jobs and Jonathan Ive both personally handling the patent requests, it gives the project quite a bit of merit. There were also rumors that it was supposed to be released in Jan with the Macbook Pro but was dropped at the last minute.

No. That is like an ibook or something. This would be silver, barely any borders for the screen like in the patent request and the entire front would be flat without bevels like a giant iPod of sorts, but in aluminum.

The animated gif at the end of the link zooms in on my city, kinda cool.

tablet from apple could be awesome, for no other reason than reading pdf's in bed.

Maybe those tablet patents are for the iPod Hi-Fi? :dunno: I personally never bought into the idea of using a tablet computer extensively, especially when it involves inputting data. But a tablet-like device that's used to casually browse the web, control iTunes and watch videos...that sounds realistic.

That could easily be accomplished with Front Row? :dunno:

i pray that this is one of those things that they never follow through on (or means something other than what it appears to mean). i hate tablets....they seem (to me) like glorified, under-powered laptops. i recognize that they have a few applications here or there, but for the most part, are really just toys
