Well, just sold my Eclipse GSX today and have money to spend. I'm in limbo though since my last laptop was a 3.2 GHz P4 Toshiba Satellite 17" Widescreen that had the video card seize 1 month out of the 6 month warranty. The reason for such a hefty machine is I am a Video editing, graphic design, web design student. I would like something smaller and I get discounts on Macs (which my department actually requires me to have) so I have it narrowed down to the Black Macbook & 2.16 GHz Macbook Pro.

The general price difference is for the slight upgrade in processor and jump in video card (also the AppleCare plan for the Pro is roughly $50-60 more WTF) as well as 13" vs 15". I want your guy's input on if the price is truly justified for the video card jump to the Pro since it'll see a lot of video editing and design work.

I'm not in the market for a desktop either. :nono:

    Thanks in advance!

hey boss, macbook pro no doubt. final cut pro you're going to want it. Max out the RAM, get an external monitor = profit.

My school already has Avid Xpress Pro for me to put on there, external moniter is definitely in the works down the road (any of the Cinema HD displays DROOL).

Hollur at another Supraforums member. I have the Soundsticks as well, extremely pleased with them after a year of owning them now.

I've got a Macbook Pro, and I absolutely love it. I actually went cheap and got the Core Duo because it was $1000 dollars off on the Sale page which was nice, but if I was really heavy into video editing I'd go for the Core 2 Duos.

It just feels so amazing, I hate using my friend's Macbooks because they all feel like shit compared to the Macbook Pro. The only thing I don't like about it is that I've only got 1 GB of RAM in there right now, which is hopefully changing within a few weeks.

But the 15inch screen is perfect IMO. I can still have it on my lap, but I can also use it on a desk and not have it feel too small.

well a mb is going to run CS3 no problem. its the 3d intensive apps where the pro shines.

:werd: Maya 8.5 runs like a dream on my Macbook Pro.

However, I disagree about CS3. Maybe it was my friend's 1GB of RAM but CS3 ran pretty shitty on his Macbook.

Well, anything that uses a lot of video ram will be the fastar on the MBP. Which includes Aperture, FCP, etc.

Shit, I run Solidworks WITHIN a Parallels session on my MBP and it's not exactly golden, but it runs smooth enough for me to get some work done without having to reboot into XP if I'm in a hurry.

What kind of connector do you need exactly to connect an acd to a mbp, cause i tried once already and the acd plug is too big.

Doesn't the older ACD use the older-style Mac proprietary ADC connector?

It was through Rutgers' computer store's ongoing agreement with Apple, coupled with a $100 gift certificate I had laying around.
