not sure if this is a technology thats even possible, but can a website be set up in such a way that it records your mac address when you visit, so it can present your custom profile, or log you in automatically, etc based on your mac address...even if you clear your cookies, etc..??

It would involve a client to be downloaded in order to authenticate the MAC address. Maybe an ActiveX control or something.

Sorry sir. That is not the case. I simply visit a website and register my computer. The only way I can force my computer to re-register is to add another ethernet/wireless card or to manually change my MAC address in windows.

I found out they are using some cgi-bin script to do the authentication.

Not if there's an ActiveX control.

Right. A Perl script can accomplish this so long that the web server is on the same network as the authenticated computers.

A cgi-bin is just a directory with special permissions that allow the execution of Perl scripts.

That being said, PHP can actually accomplish this as well, so long that the web server is on the same network as the client computers. Not possible to accomplish this task remotely.
