Yep it's happening here for a while. My 03 lost a rod. Replaced it and got a EVO instead.

Weak excuse for designing a shoddy engine. No one forced them to make an NA engine pushing >100bhp/litre, and enough cars do it just fine without the BOOM :fawk:

    whatever.. i'm not superstitious.. =)

Besides there's a warranty. I figure enough of these engines have blown up that the dealer has a clue as to how to fix them by now if mine does go.

The 01-03 S54's in the M3 have been upgraded to a 6 yr 100,000 mile warranty.

    Making more HP/L is easier in a 2.0L I-4 than in a 3.2L I-6, no?

there was a recall on the e46 in 01 because of tuning problems. the car is a 3.2 pushing 333hp for gods sake second to the s2000 in hp per liter N/A. its german man it will have probs but none the less its usually due to driver error. E36 engines blow because the tranny shifts under the car during serious G loads... causing the driver to slip it into 2 lower of a gear than they anticipated... there are aftermarket tranny holds to stabalize the problem if you are a serious driver but a typical driver shouldnt encounter the problem unless extremely provoked. otherwise they are very reliable motor granted you care for them as a high performance motor should be. the e46 motors are now reliable and stable after recall. make sure if you're going to buy a 01 or 02 that the motor had been swapped or checked from a SPECIALIST. otherwise it could have been babied and the car could still be unstable the recal is free there is no excuse. now Active Autowerks has a supercharger kit for the e46 M3. it runs on low boost but none the less, reliable enough to mash around for short incriments of time. hey yellow jacket...apples and oranges youre just bitter cuz you couldnt afford the BMW when you bought your 89 accord with the coffee can already on the back. : getoff :

I'm the last one to back up Yellow after he became an insta-BMWhating-AudiAlwaysFollow-sackrider but I have to say that at least he knows his shit and I agree with his statements here fully. BlMMERGaY please stop making us BMW owners look lame with your retarded comments.

OMFG!(learned from my new friend YJ) i apologize in full to anyone who i may have offended. stating that the e46's motor had factory recals was a big mistake. stating that BMWs are not hondas was terrible of me! im so ignorant for pointing that out!!foremost to everyone on offtopic, i apologize for my lack of simply answering a f*cking question... it was wrong of me. dude who called me bimmergay, yes i am gay and i want to floss with your butt hairs. my hatred for BMWs shows through in my OT name. i said everything i could to make every other BMW driver in the world look bad. its competition to me and i want all the girls to know i have a giant dingdong. i know, it was all wrong of me... on a happier note YJ you are only right about one thing: yes it was mechanical i guess thats why the motors blew :whatthehellwasithinking : did you read that one in roadfly? clearly my version of the bible what the hell is roadfly faggot??

ugh again with this guy. who are you man? was it that i didnt state that there was another recal of the SAME kind for the SAME problem? oh sweet jesus we're all going to die. every time you reply, you tell me that i am stating something false... and only once youve told me what was false. i guess im just wrong cuz im not 1800000 posts deep. get off my back YJ does it really bother you that someone else in the world knows something about cars? i come here to share not to argue with some "tech wannabe" sometimes posts are opinionated accept that. dont run your mouth like an idiot. i worked at a high performance BMW shop for 3 years. they have an SCCA race team and was the leading independent BMW shop in the NW for i dont know how many years now. ive met countless enthusiasts through track days and hook ups. these are my credentials for posting... if you disagree with me in any point, tell me what you think instead of leaving responses saying im a "noobie" if that makes all of my words untrue, thats a whole nother issue. i apologize once again to all of OT for saying the problem was tuning! rods were at fault i spaced on it YJ... pull that buttplug furthur out if its uncomfortable man.

ronburgundy, my impression of OT is a place to share/gain knowledge of pretty much anything. gaining information from OT is like calling friends who have expertise on the particular matter. more than one friend can tell you useful information thus, caller gains more knowledge. i came to the BMW posts because i feel i would know more than the average person would. i wouldnt go to the computer posts and tell people how to build a sick computer for cheap cuz i dont know squat about it. i also dont read whatever everyone else posted along the way cuz that comes from their experience and not mine. i'll joke around with other topics but when it comes to this, i take it seriously because someone wants a valid response. i dont care who you are on OT... thats great dude but if you have something to say, dont beat around the bush joking to your forum buddies about how you punked a "noobie". i understand you have extensive knowledge as well... the difference is im not running around the posts looking for you and trying to put words in your mouth.

is there a limit you can do per day? because i had never visited/posted in the automotive before a couple days ago. if my whopping 55 total posts scares you, check your 1850 buddy. the one thing i want to ask of you is to just explain yourself. tell me why im wrong or what information was false or what opinion you dont agree with... i'll be happy to hear your opinion, just not babbling about how im "false" you told me i was false over and over but never said what you were talking about. i gave a fair amount of info through all those posts and had explained three times that you were in fact right about that ONE thing that you said was false. i can be a big person but if you want to hit below the belt, youd better watch my steel toe. wow as for your monkey friend, just cuz you got an e36 doesnt mean you know anything about motorsport. i was hired as an assistant tec meaning i did everything from troubleshooting the cars to mounting transmissions. i was also part of the scca pitcrew on certain weekends. why dont you do something productive and google what vanos means. YJ if we met some other way im sure we'd talk for hours about cars. its pointless to have an argument over posts though... starting now just tell me exactly what you dont agree with. it'll make for a lot less irrelivent posts. and yes these posts need to be this long. this is me telling you who i am. dont mistake me for a monkey bum off the street. i never thought id get so much crap for answering someones simple question.
