I'm wanting to have my M1 Garand rebuilt since it was flooded in Katrina and I'm probably going to have the weapon rebarreled.

I'm wondering what the opinions of the two rounds for this rifle are though. From what I've read the .308 is more accurate due to it's design but I talked to one person who belongs to the club I do and he said the M1 Garands in .308 have reliability problems.

    Opinions?

I've thought about converting a Rack Grade Garand into .308 one of these days. From what I've read .308 conversions have been known to have cycling problems, but that may have been an installation problem.

The way I see it, 30.06 has always been reliable so I would probably stick with it.

Bigsnake, if you want to do a restoration and have the money I highly suggest you look at Dean's Gun Restoration. Their work is superb.

I'd go with the .308. It's your opportunity to try it. I've heard good things about the .308 Garands.

They're actually who I'm thinking about going with.

Currently waiting to see what money I can get from insurance. The flood will most probably be maxing out the insurance anyway.

So anyone here have actual experience with a .308 Garand? I think I'd prefer that bullet if I get into distance shooting with this firearm.

I appreciate that. It's either that place or the garand guy.

Thanks, you've aided me in my decision so much.

And you're saying when you go to the gun store you tell them, "I'd like to purchase some cartridges today"?
