which year M coupe you looking at? If you're looking at the '01+ with the S54 motor then I'd likely go with that over the s2k. otherwise i'd go with an s2k - especially if its the newly freshened '04+. if its between the older M coupe and a pre '04 s2k (you should definitely get an '02+ though), thats a tough choice. i'd prolly go s2k for the reliability factor. totally depends on what you wanna do with the car (daily drive?, autox?, track?, etc.)

from your last post, it sounds to me like your heart is saying M coupe (you said you "fell in love" with the car) and your head is saying S2k ("it's reliable"). i think the M coupe is fairly reliable. the s52 motor+drivetrain is proven. i'm guessing most of the issus will be electrical or little hardware bits here and there..

Go with an M coupe, it's one of the fastest BMW's, more fun and ?faster? then the M3, and @ the end of the day, you have a beemer and not a HONDA.

i don't see why anybody in the US would consider buying a S2000 really :dunno:

Its not really a comfortable ride and you can't do fast fun drives either in the US so what's the point?

    Check,
water pump make sure it's got a new one with out the plastic impeler
Drive it hard or have the owner drive it hard if the motor ticks aftwords it's fine but try to find one that does not tick (Valve tick)
Make sure it does not have after market sway bars. The welded mounts usally break off with Aftermarket sways.
Check the rear shock mount at the body make sure you don't see cracks in the body this is kinda rare but check anyway.
Make sure the streeing rack does not leak
Make sure the rear diff is not completely coverd with oil a little oil is ok because they swet.
I can't remeber anything else right now sorry for the spelling

PS M3s and MZ3 drivetrian wise are very strong. I have made over 500whp on my 95 M3 on the stock tranny and block but make sure the car was not neglected.

That said, there is a turbocharged one in Sydney laying down consistent low 10 second passes... Not bad for a BMW :p

You cant drive fast in the us? um okay. you obviously live in a shitty state. There are tons of canyon runs in the US, in fact several famous ones, ie Mulhuland, asuza. Anywehre there are mountains there are fun drives. Whats the point of a sports car at all if you cant drive it fast?

I would definatly go with the M coupe. I'm also a lil biased since i am a BMW owner. The shoe (m coupe) is one a pure drivers car and can be made into a fast lil shit if u spend some money on it. If u get one u can always get a cam kit and a few lil bolt ons and u will be eating E46 M's all day long. I might also get one dependin if there is any for sale when i am in the market, its one of my favourite cars no doubt

Those canyon runs are not fun if you're being legal.

    Bottom line.

    Dodge Viper :mamoru:

At least that's what all the Viper owners call it.

i say s2000. i just drove one of those the other weekend in a mountain run and those things are so much fun to drive when you can drive one like you stole it. i love being able to just romp on the engine, taking it to 8k every time without worrying that it'll break. not to mention one of the slickest 6 speed gearboxes i've ever felt. it's literally like a video game. below 5k rpms it's not much to talk about and feels worse than a civic but that's not what this car is designed for anyway. learn how to drive one when you can have some fun with it and you'd thoroughly enjoy it. not an extraordinarly fast car but quick enough for some weekend fun. just my $.02

I'll swear against e36's... had the rear subframe rip out of our 325i. they are pricey to fix (that should be a given) as any bmw is. the shoe is pretty heavy for its size. my vote goes for the s2k

just get the 350z... 10x better than the s2000, and it actually has balls in the lower-range.
