    Considering getting a Firebird/Trans Am/whatever as a daily driver.

How is the reliability? What things should I watch for when buying?

Which is the lightest model I can get with the LS1 and 6 speed? No Camaros

How is the gas milege with basic mods like lid, headers, ECU?

I would most likely need to drive it in snow over the winter. What snow tires are people using sucessfully?

    thanks in advance

Pontiac Formula stripper will be the lightest car you can get.

Basic mods 27 to 30 mph on the highway 19 to 23 intown depending on how you drive it.

Reliability is good, minus the fucking shitty seats and crappy power window motors. Other then that, you are ready to rock and roll.

it really won't matter, they'll weigh real similar and run damn near identical. You'll see stripper Formulas beating WS6's the same way you'll see WS6's running Stripper Formulas

Find the cheapest, best condition, lowest mileage 6 speed you can. The window motors suck. You'll get ~15-17 in the city (if you're lucky). The freeway might yield closer to 22-24. These numbers are real world numbers with lid, headers, ORY, cat-back, LS6 intake, suspension components, and a little weight shed.

Reliability wise, your window motors are useless, absolutely useless, the rears are not good...at all. They run through belts, idler pulley, small extraneous moving parts. Some have been known to bail on oil in all sorts of ways.

Look for 00 to 02. Best years. 98 has a bastard ECU and oil consumption problem (On most of them)

Anything with 80K miles or less will be good for you and what you are looking for.

Base Formula is the lightest you can get....

Gas mileage isn't bad if your headers seal properly I would probley install new O2 with the headers....

I couldn't tell you about snow tires....4000 stall+3.73s would eat snow tires...

I've got an '01, only problem has been the window motors (which aren't that bad to replace). I've got all the bolt ons and a big cam, still get 25ish MPG, mostly city driving

I think everything else has been covered. The lightest cars are hardtops, GL finding one.

I know nothing about the cars, but the LS1's we got in the first gen of commodore's had bad piston slapping issues, and they burned alot of oil. Plenty of cars had to have complete engine replacements.

Im getting 22mpg city driving in my Z28 with a 3600 high stall (so A4 obviously), long tubes no cats ORY...as long as I keep the exhaust capped. When I run it open I get 13-15mpg, again CITY.

The WS6 gets around the same with a lid, catback.

I have a 01 WS6 with Longtubes, true duals, cam, etc. I have never had a problem with it. Window motors and headlight motors have been known to go out. Piston slap and oil burning has also been noticed on some LS1's. The Manual cars will obviously get better gas mileage then the automatics. On a trip to Atlanta I got 26mpg with a lid, longtubes, true duals, stock cam, and stock tune.

my buddy has a 02 WS6 TA. its a fucking beast.

  24. get an 01 or 02, the clutch is better (same as z06), they get slightly bigger injectors, the ls6 intake stock and no EGR

but thats just me, my 2000 has 83k on it and the only problem I've had was the AC belt tensioner bearing going out. I can get as high as 30mpg on the freeway and average 15mpg in the city/on base. what it will be like when modded I dont know (ask me in a month and Ill let you know)
