Can anyone tell me why a 5'0" approx 120 lb girl who runs about 35 miles a week in cross country, has a medium build, and eats 700-1000 calories a day wouldn't lose any weight? It seems like an enigma to me, her and everyone.

    a) she's eating more than she says she is
    b) she's eating shit that she says she isn't
    c) she's eating too damn little and she needs to eat at maintenance for a little bit
    d) she might possibly be hypothyroid
    f) is she on birth control?

Most likely- she's underreporting what she eats.

she has adrenal fatigue, so she has low cortisol levels and may be hypothyroid. She took blood tests and her thryoid hormone production was on the low end of normal.

So is she on meds, or getting further tests, or what? That probably is the problem then. HypoT sucks.

For her weight and that much running, yeah- I would be expecting 1600-2000 calories a day, kinda depends on what her other daily activities consist of.

She should definitely get stuff checked out.

Even what? I meant if she were perfectly normal, 1600-2000 calories. Yes, with hypoT and stuff, metabolism slows to a freaking halt, so that's why (if she's really honest about what she's eating) she's not losing weight.

I really doubt she's counting as accurately as she should be.

:slap: Different focuses. If she's a cross-country runner, too much muscle mass is detrimental to speed just as much as fat.

at 5'0" 120lbs i can tell she's not a very lean runner. any increases in lbm would help increase caloric expenditure, and isn't the purpose of the thread to help lose weight? you assume as if beginning a weight training program will automatically add 20lbs LBM to her frame. oh i forgot, women gain muscle overnight from lifting weights.:ugh:

Dude, I can guarantee I know more about women, running for competitive purposes, and lifting with regard to that than you. My only point was that in her case, more muscle isn't really going to be a cure-all if she has hypoT problems.
