(the lulz is at the end if you wanna skip down there)

I'm one of them but I've been training BJJ for a couple months now. In in the "play defense most of the time" phase.

I only realize how much I've learned in such a short time when I show up to class and some 2nd or 3rd day white belts show up. Our instructor encourages us to show them something or teach them something rather than just beat them up and have them get discouraged.

    _lulz below_

Long story short, I was rolling with one of the new guys, bigger than I am. Somehow he winds up in side control but then he just lays there.

    Noob: "Are we stuck?"
Me: "I'm waiting for you to move"

    After a brief pause...

Noob: "What if I don't move?"
Me: "Then I guess we are stuck and I'll have to think of something.

somehow winding up in side control means he passed your guard. Give credit where credit is due

    yes, that is true

I won't go so far as to say I let him pass but I was showing him how to pass.

if you did that you should have showed him what to do from side mount unless you don't know what to do from there

Create the movement. Thats your job from the bottom anyways.

I had a guy mounted before and was just holding on while he did his noob thrashing around, after about 15 seconds he said that we had stalemated and he wanted to restart. :mamoru:

I had already escaped prior and was trying to let him do his thing so to speak

Actually, I don't know a whole lot. Knee on belly is still awkward for me.

    we just met

I'm an MMA fan but even now I have to remind myself it's ok to go for a choke. I'm getting better at that but I sill don't go for armbars even when they should seem obvious.

I guess that should be my next lesson to myself. Don't be so nice...

A 15 year old almost choked me out earlier this week. I'm about to be a blue belt. He's been training with us for 3 weeks but has an unknown amount of training at an unknown place. I was going low-speed but still, to get that close was worrisome

I got a RNC on a blue belt after my first three weeks. Thought i was awesome at first till i noticed he was giving just about everyone his back and letting them stay there so he could work on it.

:rofl::rofl: My fucking gf got me in one out of the blue the day before I left. I've been trying to show her moves all the time but she can't seem to figure out the right positions and fucks up. I guess the RNC is pretty easy to understand, but it shocked me.

Just a tip, as soon as someone passes your guard or is about to pass your guard, its better to give up your guard early and start trying to escape side control than hanging onto guard and them getting a better side control

In essence its better to be in a worse spot on your terms than in a better spot on there terms

What sort of escape do you recommend during such a transition? Try and take the back?

My thought process now would be, escape side control by getting him back into the guard which obviously isn't too helpful.

if you're allowing the guy to pass your guard to side, then just get your hand on his hip and bridge (with your arm pushing him forward). That'll give you space in between to recompose guard. Let him pass guard and repeat.

on the contary, just get him back to guard before he gets any better positioning on you.

It may seem lame but seriously its the best escape there is and it will save your skin more time than any other escape will.

    Basics > everything else

ok folks, the lulz are on me now

Had a blue belt passing my guard yesterday. I think he was already in side control but for whatever reason he posted up, dropped back down and his full body weight came down on my right hand/wrist (hand was in a bad spot). Loud POP!

Broken radius and ulna. Such noob fail, pretty embarrassing. In a cast for six weeks. Fracture just below the wrist bones so once it heals I should be back to normal.
