I’ve lost 22-24 lbs since 2/11, though I stopped trying to lose weight a few weeks ago. Simply maintaining now. I’m 5’8.5” and now weigh 196-200, depending on time of day, scale and attire. While losing weight, all I did was dramatically cut back on my caloric intake (nothing more specific than beyond that) and added some cardio at the end of every workout. Perhaps I ate too little?

The cardio routine that I started while trying to lose weight and still do today, essentially ends up being ~15 minutes, a little over a mile, and 140+ calories with a heart rate of no more than 130 or whatever the “weight loss” program calls for on the Precor elliptical. I work out 3 times a week (and always have). For the past year, I also play basketball in the mornings for an hour twice a week. My typical week is the gym on M, T, and Th and basketball on M and F.

Now here’s my problem, I’ve lost a lot of strength and endurance and can’t seem to regain it. I’ve actually been feeling like this before I went on my diet, but it seems to be (and perhaps understandably so) more evident now. Since I’m no longer trying to lose weight, I’ve upped my caloric intake, still drink an 11 oz. of Ready-to-Drink Muscle Milk (from Costco) 30 to 60 minutes before each workout and recently started taking Nutrabolic’s Glutabolics before and after my workouts with hopes of recovering my strength and endurance. However, no such luck yet.

My baseline for strength and endurance is the bench. A typical heavy day used to be 5x5 at 295 on the flat and I’ll often have bonus sets left in me at 315+. Normal day would be 3x10 at 245. I could do 225 at least 22 times.

    Currently, I STRUGGLE to get 5x3 at 295. I also struggle to get 3x8 @ 245.

So is there anything glaring that would contribute to me loss of strength and more importantly, my endurance?

Perhaps it’s the sad fact that I’m turning 30 in July…  :wtc:

    Less fat > *

Give it some time, if you want to lift more weight then go back to your old fat self. You can't expect to be able to lift the same amount of weight after significant weight lost.

because you lost muscle when you dieted.

Hardly a weak bench. Obviously you want to look good, so get your bodyfat down.
