Looking to upgrade my motherboard

Discussion in 'OT Technology' started by Crave McSteak, Sep 30, 2009.

  1. Currently:

    CPU - AMD Athlon 64x2 5600+
    Mobo - AN9-32X Fatal1ty
    4gb RAM
GPU - Dual GeForce 9600GT SLI
    OS -Vista 32

My question, what is a decent motherboard upgrade for around $100?

I'm assuming you want to keep the CPU and the SLI/Crossfire?

Upgrade? But you are keeping your components, what do you want the new motherboard to do?

  9. My problem.. my sound is distorted and sounds like crap. I blame a bad sound card. I've updated drivers, rolled back drivers and pretty much done all I can. Online I've read it's a normal issue with my onboard sound.

I'd add a new soundcard if I could but with my GPUs in SLI I dont have an available slot.

I dont have a ton of money to throw at this at the moment so was hoping a new motherboard would be a quick easy fix. I'd love to get a motherboard that is an actual upgrade and would leave me open to upgrading other peices later as money becomes a non issue.

  10. edit.. and the sound only became distorted when I added my second GPU.. any ideas?

    Think its worth the purchase?

make sure you download the latest drivers for your motherboard, chipset and video cards before you format

Don't go i7. Go i5. Look for a 1156 socket motherboard. The i5 750 is faster and much cheaper than the i7 920.

  18. weird thing is, when I have just 2 (+sub) of the 5 speakers hooked up there is no distortion. but when I added the rear 2 and center speaker the sound went to shit.

I cant figure out if its a power problem, maybe adding the 2nd graphics card is killing my BUS or if its just time to get a new MOBO or express soundcard

the one thing that makes lga 1156 useless is that you cant have more than 1 pci-e x16 port. that means no sli or dedicated physx unless your willing to take a performane hit

  20. updated chipset last night.. video card drivers are up to date but I might try rolling them back tonight.

Yes, Crossfire is AMD's version of SLI

  22. rolled back the video drivers to an earlier version and no more distorted sound.

    :wtf:
