To throw a different opinion in I prefer the Western Digitals, they've never failed on me whereas two Seagates have. Still, chances are both will suit you just fine.

In the WD vs Seagate battle, for internal HDDs, there is not contest -- Seagate wins.

That doesn't mean anything to me, if I have need to use the warranty then I'm already in a bad place. In my experience I've never had to use a warranty on a WD, I can't say the same for Seagate.

I'd prefer to have more reliability than the chance of being out $100. But as I say every time, most people have good or bad experiences either way so whatever :wiggle:

Now that the 1tb drives are out, there's probably going to be a lot of good deals coming up for Black Friday.

Statistically speaking, you'll RMA several WDs for every single Seagate your have to RMA.

And just what do you have to back that statement up?

the fact that I deal with this on a daily basis. And I will handle more drives in 1 week than you will in your entire lifetime.

Call some distributors and ask for their numbers. I know that I RMA several WD's for every Seagate that I get. And the bad seagates are generally DoA... Once they work, they tend to stay working.

But if you don't believe me, go look at ASI, MSL, PhaseOne, etc...

So, again, other than your personal experience, whatever that may be, you have no hard data to back up your statement.

Look around and you'll see me and him arguing about practically everything under the sun.

But he's right about Seagate. They really do own the industry.

It's not just hype that they add a 5 year warranty to all of their drives.

If you've had a couple of them fail, it was honestly just a fluke.
