I went to my fiancee's parent's house today and her dad showed me his new P-3AT. Compared to his Jennings .22 pocket pistol, they were damn near the same size, but the Kel-Tec was thinner. I had been looking at something smaller than my 4" XD-40 to carry on days it would be hard to conceal the XD. What other non-revolvers out there comparable in size and price?

the p-3at is one of the smallest i have seen in that large of a round. but the reliabilty is not there in kel-tec in my own experiences. i do know there is a new subcompact xd that has a 3in barrel. its not as small as the keltec but i would trust it more.

If it's hard to conceal the XD, you're either a waif, or you've got the wrong holster. That model shouldn't be that hard to conceal. Are you wearing skin-tight or mesh shirts?

I'm 5'6" 130lbs. During the summer, I wear t-shirts and shorts and don't want something heavy weighing down my mesh shorts.

Yeah, you're a small one. Unless you're a girl. Then you're not that small. If you find that the P3AT is functional for you, get one. I've noticed that they're hit or miss. About 60-75% of P3AT owners never have problems with them. The other percentage of the owners have nothing but problems. I'd love to have one myself. I think it's a great balance of size and power. You lose a lot of ballistics and capacity stepping down to a small .380 from 9mm, but you also gain a huge advantage in size and weight.

Glock 26, 27, 33, or 36 would be good for your size, and chamber a worthwhile round for self defense.

HK P2000SK is also another great subcompact in 9mm or 40s&w... probably wont fit in your front pocket as well as the above mentioned Glocks, but it will disappear on your hip easily.

    Sig Sauer P239 in 9mm or 40s&w

Kahr PM9 or PM40. i know a lot of people who choose these as BUGs.

that's about the extent of what i would recommend based on reliability and concealability for a person your size. i'm about the same size, but with a bit more bulk, and started with carrying a Glock 23 concealed effectively, but have recently switched to the HK P2000 v1.

the kahr pm9 is a very nice pistol... it definitely has some bite due to it's small frame, but it is very accurate.

If you are used to the XD, go take a look at the XD Sub Compact. Love mine. If that's still to big, then so will the USP or the Glock Compacts. If you want a true pocket gun then look at either the NAA Guardian 380 or the P3AT.

My P3AT sits in my pocket or on my ankle almost every day as backup. So far over 1000 rounds with no problems. I actually bought mine off a guy at the range who had purchased it the day before and out of 200 rounds, he got FTFs and FTEs about 2 times per mag. I took it and ran 50 rounds without a hiccup. What the problem was, is that it's so damn light and small that it's easy to FTF if you have a weak hold on it. (same goes for teh Kahr 40s and the NAAs) I have seen this with 3 now at the range. Shoots fine for me, shoots like crap for someone with weak grip.

Thanks for the suggestions, but I'm looking for a true pocket gun and something similar in price as the P-3AT. Her dad paid ~$300, which is probably high. I'm going to be carrying my XD mostly, just want something small and light for the days I wear mesh shorts, etc.

then either the P32 or P3AT or the NAA 32/380s are your choice.

You can get a P3AT for around 250 new but make sure you get the newer model. They switched extractor designs and the newer version helps with the weak wrist FTE.

I've got a P32 that I love. I've heard the new model P3AT's are better reliability wise. I might have to pick one up before too long.

I have the Kel-Tec 9mm and it can fit almost anywhere.
Mine does have a problem with the manual feed, so I keep it locked and loaded.

I'm a bit bigger than the guy who started the thread, but I carry my 19 all day every day. That usually means from the time I step out of the shower at 0900 to the time i put my pistol on my desk at 3 in the morning. I work a sales job, where I'm on my feet 11 hours a day. Might not be the most demanding job in the world, but my Glock carries very well for my body type.

The poster is talking about true pocket guns though. Not IWB/OWB.

Nice price. Not sure if Kel Tec is still offering it, but if you send them your slide/barrel and 20 bucks they will replace it with a new hard chromed slide, new extractor included and they will also polish the feedramp. Nice upgrade for 20 bucks. I had them do mine for me and they were quick on turnaround (about 4 days) and the results were more than I expected.

Give them a call if interested. http://www.kel-tec.com/
