I want a regular rifle for the gf to be able to shoot with while we're at the range, but I plan to shoot this thing as well, along with doing any mods that may be desired.

I did some searching, but I'm not really sure where to start on this one.

Also, I really need to learn some gun teardown/rebuild & parts basics, in the mean time. Is there a good source for me to find that, rather than looking at 50 bits and pieces of information scattered over 20 forums?

    Thanks! :h5:

I still want local, WMD opinions and experiences, though. :)

What I did was purchase the weaponkraft ultimate plus package. that replaces pretty much everything internal that you need/want to replace except the trigger.

after that, pick a stock you like and pick a decent barrel. someone else can suggest a barrel.

go and find one you like. The only thing you will wind up with is the receiver anyway so just a cheap 10/22 with a plasic stock is all I would look to buy if upgrades are in the future.

I like my stainless build but that is your choice. you take a $120 dollar gun and put 500 in it.

i got my 10/22 for like $200 OTD from my local shop. i plan to replace the barrel, stock, internals, and add a scope and bipod.

in terms of barrels, 18 or 20 inches are fine, and from what ive read fluting is purely cosmetic (no real benifit).

stocks, get whatever you want. make sure to match barrel dimentions (.920 vs. standard).

internals, skys the limit. i plan on getting a full volquartsen high preformance pack.

you should check out rimfirecentral. just browse for a bit and do some searches. they've covered just about everything

    :wavey: welcome to the club

I started with a stainless carbine and a cheapass BSA 3-9x40. Out of the box it's a great, handy package. The longer-barreled rifles shoot better out of the box, but only slightly. So I'd get a carbine as a starting point, since if you really want accuracy, the barrel is the first part to change. FYI all 10/22 receivers are aluminum, so it is possible to start with a non-stainless rifle and polish the receiver at a later date.

Put a bolt buffer in it immediately even if you don't plan any mods for a while
