the s10 4x4's (t10) are a fucking pain in the ass to lift. tacomas are good trucks but far too expensive for what you get, imo.

I'd say a t10 z71 or nissan frontier are your overall best choices for compact used trucks that are <$10k.

    how much?

if you are a mechanic, then you might consider something like that (usually can get for hella cheap) but make sure you get everything you need, and that the trans he has is good.

if it were me, personally, I'd walk away and find something that I can test drive, and I know is in good shape.

800 eh? if it's just the trans, it sounds like it might be a good deal if you know how to fix that sort of thing.
