    I'm 6-feet , 230Lbs.

How much should I spend on this?

but he doesn't just need plates. When i bought my Olympic bar + 300lbs of weight it came out to be around $150 on sale brand new. It's possible to get that for around $100 used, but he would still need a bench, and at least acurl bar

There are plenty of guys that curl with a full sized barbell or dumbells, he doesn't NEED an ezcurl bar ... and if you want to get 1 inch stuff you can get it at your local Walmart ... all my stuff not including the bench was right around $150 - $200 ...

You could easily get used weight plates for that... My company often gets them from customers and discards them.

I would recommend joining a gym. You can go to any corporate gym and get a free 2 week/ 1 month trial membership, or buy a few one month coupons off of ebay some scratch.
