    Hey, alright well I'm thinkin about buyin an eclipse, either a '00 or a '01..

    But anyway, I was tryin to find some info on them. Could you guys tell me the average mpg, reliability, and etc? I'm probably not going to spend more than 6k, so around 100k miles would be what I buy.

    thanks

  2. I have heard bad things about reliability but I like how they look. If I had money I would buy a GSX amongst other cars. But thats only if I had money to pay for mods and stuff.

    I've had an '00 GT 5Spd for 4 years now.

    I haven't had a *single* problem with it. I take care of it because it's my DD and my baby.

    If you have any questions I can most assuredly answer them.

    00's and up are pretty solid, but they are total weaksauce compared to the 90's-99's.

    the point i was trying to make is that, turbocharged eclipses are unreliable while NA is okay.

    Turbocharge anything will be more likely to be unreliable than NA.

    Sorry, I gotcha now.

    I agree too. That's why I haven't done a thing to my car :). The stock exhaust sounds awesome BTW.

    I have an 00 GT automatic. No reliability issues. I haven't kept up too religiously on the oil changes, and I've deviated by about 5k miles on one change. I drive it pretty hard around the corners, but that's the roughest that I handle it. The sportronic shifting is okay, but it's got a 1.5 sec lag between shifting and actually shifting.

    The only issues I have ever had were all electronic. The rear wiper would spaz and wipe non-stop on occassion when I turned it on (it's not variable intermittent speed). That was fixed by the dealer. The harness for my left headlamp went bad somehow. That was also fixed by the dealer. My airbag light lights up for days on end for no reason; it was "fixed" by the dealor once, but it came back on that same day.

    I've only got nearly 60,000 miles on it and it still drives nice.

    Weird, I did have that problem, but it was just the pigtail so I replaced it myself.

    I get about 25-30 combined. Obviously the upper end moreso for highway driving.

    What are your plans with the car? If you plan on modding one, you might want to pickup a 95+ GST or GSX eclipse. The 4G63 would be my motor of choice.

    I have no experience with modding. I came here because I don't know shit about what I was askin. My purpose is just to have some fun. Ultimately I might mod actually yeah. Right now I just want a car that looks and drives good. I'm sick of my piece of shit ford contour.

    It's expensive to mod any car, but moreso an NA car. If you're serious about modding, I wouldn't buy this car.

    If you want something that's reliable, looks good, and is fun to drive, the 3G would be the best generation for you.

    I understand all of that except the '3G,' what the hell is a 3G. And is that still a mistubishi?

    1g = 1st generation = 90-94
    2g = 2nd generation = 95-99 (sexiest)
    3g = 3rd generation = 00-05 = not a "real" eclipse
    4g = 4th generation = 06+

    I've had a 97 GS-T and a 95 GSX. I hate the 00-05 because it's slow, ugly, oh, and it's slow.

    The 90-99 DSMs are only unreliable becuase the jackass who drove it beat the shit out of it. Im all down for flogging on my Talon every once in a while but when people beat on it all day every day, shit is going to go wrong. My car had a shitload of problems when i first picked it up cause the previous owner dogged the shit out of it. Since Ive done a 6 bolt swap and new turbo no problems since. Also dont buy into the whole Crankwalk being a HUGE issue on the 2g DSM's. Crankwalk is way hyped up. It rarely ever happens, and if the car hasnt had it happen yet, chances are it never will.

    EDIT: BTW I HATE the 3G eclipses, so ugly and slow. Hideous.
