I do some gaming so it should be able to handle the newest stuff. I'm not looking for something that will need upgrading soon, i'd like this to last me 3-4 years.

looking to build a PC but i have no idea where to start. I have never built one before but i think i can figure it out without too much of a hassle. I would get prebuilt but its just not worth dropping 3 grand on a PC.

    I can get the i7 920 for $200 or the i7 860 for $229 or the Q9550 for $170

i have no idea where to begin, any guides? which products should i be looking for? I would prefer to go intel over AMD.

From what i understand everything is plug and play. I'd like to spend less than $1500 without the monitor

q9550 is old technology, the socket 775 platform is essentially dead with the release of the core i5.
On my last 2 systems, I went i7 over any of the other offerings.

Look for a gigabyte X58 board, there are several that don't offer a ton of sata ports and extras like sli or crossfire and will do just fine in a normal system.

Add in some ocz or corsair DDR3 ram, either 3GB or 6GB, depending on your budget. A decent PSU from OZC, Corsair, Seasonic, PC Power & Cooling and a case that looks good to you. Antec has a couple of cases that have great cooling abilities.

If you're gaming, then a geforce 260 or 285, or an ATI 48xx series.
