Looking for workout routine advice.

    I just started a new job and they offer free admission to a nearby fitness center/gym and i would like to start going to it since i have never really done some kind of routine workout.
    My normal working hours are 9-5pm with a lunch break around 12 noon.
    It takes me about 1 hour and 20 minutes to go to and from work and my transportation from work only runs 5am-10am morning and 3:30pm-7pm evenings.
    The only possible free time i would have to work out would be before work like 8am-9am,lunch 12-1pm or after work 5pm-7pm.

    I'd like some advice on how i should coordinate some kind of workout, is it best to do before work, lunch or afterwards? I don't want to be dead tired for work.

    I hope what i wrote above with the times isnt too confusing its just that my work schedule/transportation schedule is very tight and i want to make use of the free facilities!!

    EDIT:
    I would be able to go on Sundays/Saturdays to the gym but it is kind of out of my way and i'd like a little bit of rest time.

    --Any suggestions appreciated so i can coordinate everything!!
