Canon - PowerShot 4.0MP Digital Camera with Case - Iridescent White SD10
pros: 4.0 mp, 5.7 digital zoom, small
    cons: small lcd, ?

    Canon - PowerShot 3.2MP Digital Camera - Silver SD200
    pros: tiny, big lcd
    cons: 3.2 mp

    Canon - PowerShot 4.0MP Digital Camera S410
    pros: 4.0 mp, OT recommended
cons: small lcd, its bulky compared to the others

    Sony - Cyber-shot 5.1MP Digital Camera - Silver DSC-W1
    pros: 5.1mp, big lcd
    cons: rechargeable AA batteries(?), bigger

all of them are around $300 and i'm just looking for a nice performence camera for daily use or special occasions. I'm leaning towards the sony for its 5.1mp or the SD10 for it's compactness. Which would you pick/avoid?

    SD10 DIGITAL ZOOM SUCKS!!
    SD200 3.2MP sucks
    S410 photo quality was bland

DSC-W1 Personally think rechargable AA's are a PLUS! Cheap, everywhere and can use standard AA's in a pinch.

I returned a Pentax S4 to get the DSC-W1. The images are GREAT!!!

Spent 2 hours at teh camera shot for fun we took a tripod and took the same picture with the following cameras.

    Cannon S410
    Cannon S500
    Pentax Optio S4
    Pentax Optio S4i
    Pentax Optio S50
    Sony DSC-P93
    Sony DSC-T1
    Sony DSC-W1

The printed the images without any type of correction.

4 employees, another customer and myself all agreed that the Sony DSC-W1 had the best output.

Its quick, lense is great, display is great... Memory is expensive.

i disagree... so far my Sony 5.0 mp cam has taken just as good of pics quality wise as my Nikon D70 and the Digi Rebel i had before this.
And yes, ive had professional lab prints from them all.
The only downside is that my cam had no manual features... :(

the 5.0-5.1 sensor that Sony is using in their cams is really kick ass.

lab prints of digital files are like xeroxing a Mona Lisa. Unless you use film, it's senseless to get digital files printed at a pro lab.

Again, i disagree... when you are shooting pictures of events like i do, people dont tend to like their final product to be something printed from and Epson....

    it looks more professional.

Hmm your local Costco uses a Frontier just like your pro lab would. There is no difference-

Agreed, i just have a hookup at a lab that gets my prints for about 1/2 what i would pay at Costco.

I've just bought this camera. I'm going to a fancy dress party this weekend (1940's/Vampyres+Vixens theme) so I should get some good (read as bizarre) photos from it. Not the best camera but for £298 it's a hell of a lot cheaper than most for what it's got.

It's also just dawned on me that this is out of the $300 area for the topic starter. My bad.

I just bought a Canon PowerShot s500 (5.0 MP) for ~325 from BeachCamera.com. It's the next model up of the s410. Great price for that camera (from what I saw).
