not sure if you guys would have the answer for this. maybe i should post in main forum as well. I am looking for a pinhole type "spy camera" with audio and video. needs to record in low light and have a battery life for about 7 hours. any recommendations or sites that may be of help? everything i lookup seem to be these bootleg spy shops that i dont know if i could trust. Dont want to spend more than maybe 600.

its for work. im in law enforcement in a department that does not provide these cameras. looking for something not too bulky that i could attach to the belt and lapel. just wondering what out there. too many idiots filming us and not showing the whole incident thought i might try to even the playing field.

I know they sell WORKING DVD players that have cameras in the LCD screen area. that's if you're doing some super spy "want to tape yourself having sex with a hooker" porn

I would strongly advise law enforcement officers against making a detailed audio/video record of their daily encounters. Your department almost certainly would not approve, and for good reason. Here's one hypothetical that could come back to bite you in the bum

Defense Att.: So officer do you routinely make a record of your interactions while on Duty?

    Off.: Yes, I do.

Def. Att.: Do you have a record of your encounter with the defendant?

Off.: No, but.... (would have said the equipment was malfunctioning, or the quality was so bad that it was unusable, or forgot to use it that day. The reasons why a piece of equipment like this could fail are endless, and when that happens the Defense is going to infer you have something to hide.)

Def. Att.: That is all officer, you're excused.

Let's say that the equipment does capture the event, but is ambigous as these things often are, once again you've opened the door to the defense in its efforts to sow doubt in the minds of the jury.

Even when you have a clear unambiguous record, this stuff can be a disaster for law enforcement. If you record everything, no exceptions, you will also record ever expletive, every gross funny story used to keep your partner awake on a long watch, every action is going to be endlessly reviewed by the department and the defense looking for some way, any way, to impugn the professionalism, and honor of the officer.

This approach reduces the flexibility of an officer to handle the thousands of little problems encountered in dealing with the public, and that can be a dangerous thing. Don't do it. You are opening yourself and your department to liabilities far beyond any advantage you might gain.

Do the job the best you can based on the limited knowledge you have of each situation. Adhere to the law as best you understand it. Make your judgments rationally, and based on what you legally know. Then tell the truth in your reports, to your superiors, to the Prosecutor's Office and on the witness stand. Sometimes you won't look good, but your honor will remain intact and your career will almost certainly not be damaged.
