back in september, my brother had a work related accident which resulted in the loss of his right hand.

he did mention to me wanting a final fantasy type game, but he cannot play online due to his ISP(satellite internet and bandwidth caps)

his computer is 3 years old,
    2gb RAM,
    2.0ghz dual core amd cpu,
    512mb nvidia 8600

i was only able to suggest a sims or simcity type game, and he got Sims 3 the other day and seems to enjoy that

I would think most strategy or RTS games would be playable one-handed. Pretty much anything but a flight sim, first person shooter, or racing game should be ok.

First step is for him to get a keyboard with the numpad removed and the arrow keys repositioned. This will allow him to switch between the mouse and keyboard if need be in some games. Next would be to get a mouse with a ton of bindable buttons (like the MX Revolution). Shooters are pretty much gone, but he has plenty of options with RPGs and RTS. Diablo 2 is a good one, Guild Wars as well. Company of Heroes.

RTS games like the C&C series or Blizzards games
TBS like Civilization or Master of Orion
TBRPG's (Turn Based RPG's) most RPG's have the option to become turn based. with the attack bar stops moving once someone is at max giving you time to chose your attacks.

IDk how old you wanna go with games. but I will try to think of a few.

    Age of Empires Series
    Command and Conquer
    Command and Conquer Red Alert
Command and Conquer Red Alert Counterstrike
Command and Conquer Red Alert Aftermath
    Command and Conquer Tiberium Sun
Command and Conquer Tiberium Sun Firestorm
Command and Conquer Red Alert 2
Command and Conquer Red Alert 3 Yuri's Revenge
    Command and Conquer Generals
Command and Conquer Generals Zero Hour
Command and Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars
Command and Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars Kanes Wrath
Command and Conquer Red Alert 3
Command and Conquer Red Alert 3 Uprising
Heroes of Might and Magic Series
    Warcraft
    Warcraft 2
    Warcraft 3
    Warcraft 3 Frozen Throne
    Starcraft
    Diablo
    Diablo 2
    Master of Orion
    Master of Orion 2
    Master of Orion 3
    Betrayal In Antara
    Black and White
    Black and White Creature Isle
    Evil Genius
Final Fantasy 7 (yes was released on PC)
Final Fantasy 8 (again yes, was released on PC)
Guild Wars , Factions, Nightfall, Eye of the North (can be played with Just a Mouse. Harder but possible)
    Rise of Nations
Rise of Nations Rise of Legends
    Civilization 1-5
    The Sims 1, 2, & 3 + any expantions
    Star Wars Empire at War
Star Wars Empire at War: Forces of Corruption

(this is just a list that I can think of from the games I own. There are MANY more games that can be played with 1 hand.)

Hell even wow can be done with 1 hand with just a mouse. I used to do it all the time. Had run as one of my thumb buttons. inventory as the other. and would just be a "clicker" for my abilities. But he would wanna play in a PvE server if he did that.

You're into flight simming. I know a couple people with disabilities that are more than capable of flight sims with a correctly mapped joystick or some simple mods.

I was going to recommend this as well. On rails shooters can be fun if the game is done up well and it is really ideal for a person with one hand :hs:

Torchlight just came out. So far it seems playable with only the mouse.

If it was my brother I would buy him a new PC - a good net connection and get him on EvE Online.

I know you said something about the net cap - but I would still try.

EvE Online is perfect for folks with a handicap. Alot to do - fun as hell - and slow paced enough where someone with a handicap can play.

No I am not handicapped. But one of my old corp buddies had a severe spinal injury that kept him bed ridden till he died. Up till he died he was a commander of over 100 pilots. He had alot of fun.
